Hello my dear 3B students!
Our last topic talks about engineering feats. Great buildings made by the man that are very famous around the world.
During our class we discussed about some of these amazing engineering feats and now I would like you to tell us which great engineering feat you have already visited. Where is it? In Brazil, abroad? Who did you go with? What did you like the most about it? Why is this building considered an engineering feat?
In case you have never visited any great engineering feat, which one would you like to vistit one day? Why?
As you can see, here I am in New York City visiting one of the most famous engineering feats from the 20th century - The Empire State Building.
These pictures were taken in January 2008, I traveled to NYC with my husband and we had a very good time there!
The Empire State Building is now the tallest building in New York City (381 meters tall). The building was opened on May 1, 1931 and it stood the world's tallest building for more than 40 years from 1931 to 1972, when the World Trade Center construction was completed.
Now it's your turn! I'd love to know the awesome buildings you have already been to!!
I have never been to any egineering feat abroad, but in 2007 I went to Itaipu Dam. I went with my perents and my sister, and we were surprised how it is big and strong, it can support a lot of water. This engineering feat causes a big controversy when they started to built it, beacuse of the deforestation, but on the other hand, it distributes a lot of water for all over the country. It is something increable, you should go there one day! Letícia class 356
ReplyDeleteIn march of this year, I went with my fammily to Buenos Aires- Argentina,it´s a very good place to travel, and there I knew the Obelisco , that is considered an engineering feat, the Obelisco have 67,5 meters, it´s not so hight but the buit was completed in 31 days ! Is incrediable how they did it ! Lívia classa 356
ReplyDeleteThis is the Obelisco
ReplyDeleteI have never been to any very famous engineering feat, but I went to Rio de Janeiro and I visited the Christ. I went there with my parents and my sisters.
ReplyDeleteI liked very much to visit the Christ because it is very big and on top of the mountain you can see all the city and sea.
It is located on top of Corcovado Mountain and 709 meters above sea level. It is 38 meters tall and it was inaugurated on 12 October 1931, after nearly five years of work.
Dear Letícia, Lívia and Bruno,
ReplyDeleteI'm Carla Arena, Carolina's friend and teacher at CTJ, too.
I loved to realize that I've visited all the engineering feats you mentioned, the Obelisc in Buenos Aires, Itaipu dam, and Christ the Reedemer in Rio.
One that I loved to visit was the Space Needle in Seattle. Have you ever seen it? It is really tall and when you get upstairs, there's a restaurant from which you can enjoy the magnificent view of Seattle. Worth visiting!
Here's my Seattle photo collection. Can you see the space needle? http://www.flickr.com/photos/carlaarena/sets/72157600036645080/
Cheers!
Hello everybody!! I'm very glad to see your posts here!
ReplyDeleteLetícia, I have never been to Itaipu, but I can imagine how increadible it is! Lívia and Bruno I have been to both Argentina and Rio and I also liked visiting the same engineering feats you mentioned above!!
Carla, I have never been to Seatle but that is a place I would like to visit someday! Your pictures are great!!
Dear All,
ReplyDeleteIt is so delightful to hear all the different places that people have been!
I have been to the Space Needle in Seattle, the Empire State Building in New York but, for me, what really amazes me is how people could build certain things so high up in a hill / mountain when there was no technology as there is now-a-days. Every time I go to Rio I look at the "Cristo" and think about all the work and how amazing it is that people could build that. I felt the same way in Greece when visiting the Acropolis in Athens (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=38139997822&set=a.38136772822.51311.753912822&type=1).
